Integrated Pest Management

The program endeavors to promote pest management systems that are environmentally friendly, socially acceptable and economically sound to our communities. We encourage the use of a variety of options that enhance good agricultural techniques and less reliance of synthetic pesticides. They include cultural, biological and physical control techniques with minimum emphasis on chemical use. The Idea is not to eliminate the pests but to manipulate their population below economic injury levels. This achieved through research, trainings, demonstrations and conduct of workshops/seminars for stakeholders’ engagement on the progress, challenges and strategies for effective and efficient pest management.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices. IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.

The IPM approach can be applied to both agricultural and non-agricultural settings, such as the home, garden, and workplace. IPM takes advantage of all appropriate pest management options including, but not limited to, the judicious use of pesticides. In contrast, organic food production applies many of the same concepts as IPM but limits the use of pesticides to those that are produced from natural sources, as opposed to synthetic chemicals.

Climate Smart Agriculture and Agroforestry

In order to respond to the challenge of climate change and to achieve food security and poverty alleviation, the program works with smallholder farmers to sustainably increase agricultural productivity and smallholder incomes, build resilience to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by offering three different solutions which include climate smart landscapes, agroforestry systems supply chains and sustainable farms. We work at the local farmer groups in building their capacity in seed propagation, tree planting and related value chain in order to achieve food security, environmental sustainability and economic sovereignty.

Organic Farming

The program aims at supporting farmers to farmers to produce healthy foods through practices that reduce use of synthetic pesticides that are harmful to both our health and the environment. We therefore through innovative organic products, trainings, site farm demonstration, and engagement of different stakeholders envision achieving extensive adoption of organic farming, food safety, improve agriculture productivity, and attainment of export market standard.

Soil Health Management

Knowing the precise composition and health of your soil is crucial to achieving optimal crop yields and promoting sustainable practices. Soil testing allows you to identify nutrient deficiencies, pH imbalances, and potential toxicities that may hinder your farm’s productivity. Armed with this valuable information, you can fine-tune your nutrient management strategies, apply targeted fertilization, and ensure that your crops thrive in the best possible environment.Understanding your soil’s composition and health is essential for maximizing your crop yield.

Our precision soil testing services offer in-depth analysis and actionable insights, allowing you to fine-tune your nutrient management strategies and optimize your farm’s productivity.
